Survivor of Abuse
The #MeToo Movement is one that has brought attention to a long, deeply rooted problem throughout societies across the globe, sexual assault and sexual abuse.
We often think that we can combat this by teaching our young girls to dress modestly, or have a keen sense of stranger-danger.
What’s worse is that when we have raised our own sexual abuse awareness we know that an overwhelming majority of perpetrators of sexual violence are known to the victim. It is not the stranger we must be aware of, but when boundaries are crossed and what to do about it.
This was no different for Marian, who was abused by someone she loved and trusted very much. Coming forward for help only brought on shame and rejection from those who should have shown their support for her.
Building a Thriving Life
Marian drew a line in the sand deciding between thriving or surviving for the rest of her life. This episode is one about hope, about healing, and about moving forward with purpose. We get to hear Marian share her story about building a thriving life when all the statistics say she will suffer more.
After pulling up stakes, Marian made a geographical move as well as a spiritual and mental shift. She took time to heal, and time to define what a thriving lifestyle would look like for herself.
Her podcast, Thriver Lifestyle Podcast, is about sharing with her listeners that you can thrive after abuse. We can pick ourselves up from any setback we have experienced, and it starts with a choice.
Understand that we are not talking about faking it until you make it. Time was taken to become whole again, and in some ways it is still a daily effort as we have heard from past guests. We invite you to listen to Marian’s story and we hope it will inspire you to build a thriving life for yourself as well.
