Mother’s Day Out
A mother’s day out program is similar to a daycare. Parents drop off their children for a set amount of time. These children are cared for by a professional staff who go through a background check, and receive CPR and other required training.
A traditional daycare may be a full-time, Monday through Friday operation. Whereas, a mother’s day out program may be open a few days a week for a limited window. This kind of program is designed to give the stay-at-home parent additional support. While the child is in a mother’s day out program, parents can run errands, attend a church bible study, or just take a break.
If you’re thinking, “How hard can it be as a stay-at-home parent?” shame on you! Parenting is hard. While many of us are doing what work in an office, an oil rig, or some other business, a stay-at-home parent is staying vigilant keeping a baby from getting hurt, and also pours into the development of that child…for free! A program like what Kainee offers can give a parent a much needed window to take care of things with focus and peace of mind.
Kainee Bram
Kainee Bram was the former Children’s Ministry Director for Church Unlimited a number of years before venturing into business for herself with mother’s day out programs, a preschool, and daycare in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her mission is to provide parents the opportunity to engage in other activities while their children are cared for in a safe, loving environment designed for that child’s developmental needs.
She partnered with local churches and a mixed martial arts dojo in the Corpus Christi area to launch her first two locations. Later, as she found success, there was an opportunity to purchase and take over a daycare in Corpus Christi. It included a preschool. This episode shares how she navigated the waters of licensing, hiring, and state regulations to create her dream business.
She currently lives, works, and attends church in Corpus Christi, Texas, with her husband Scott.

Hi! I love the talk. I have such a discontentment and feel like I’ve been led to do a Mother’s Day out in my neighborhood for the many stay at home moms and their sanity and hearts. I’ve been in childcare professionally for 10 years, I know the ins and outs of licensing but I can’t find info on starting a Mother’s Day out being license exempt but I imagine they are.
Does this speaker have any info on how she approached this in her venture?
Hi! This is Kainee Bram. I would love to talk to you! Call me anytime at 361-271-0709
Hello, I am interested in starting my own MDO program in Mabank, TX. I have a BS in education and special education. I also have aMS in counseling and am a LPCI-I and will be fully licensed in February. I taught for 12 years and have a true passion for kids. I can’t find specific regulations on requirements for the space and what I would need to do to become licensed to open this type of program. I would appreciate any help. Thanks
I’m the director of a program at First United Methodist in Groves, Texas. We are wanting to go to 3 days a week 5 hours a day. I’ve been told that church parent day out or daycares don’t have to be licensed. They do have to follow a few regulations like health records on all students, up to date vaccinations, attendance records, teachers CPR/First Aid certified and background checks.
Hi, Connie! I’m so sorry it’s taken me so long to get with you. I just called your Mother’s Day Out program and left you a voicemail. Please call me anytime!

I am already a license daycare provider in the state of Florida. I want to change up the scenery from and original day care to something like a Parents day out not just mom because father’s are parents too. I wanted to add a small twist like a play area ( something as to where kids can go to have trampoline fun) but I don’t know where to start. Any suggestions?
Hi Latrice,
Kainee’s email is in this comment thread if you want to reach out to her. She’s been more than happy to talk it through with folks. -Jerry
Hi,
Im so glad I stumbled on this since our stories sound somewhat similar. I walked a way from a lucrative career to do ministry and take care of kids. Now, I am a pastor’s wife, former children’s ministry director, preschool teacher and part time online teacher. I am looking to start a mother’s day out at a rural church in Georgia but I have no idea where start?! Im listening to this podcast as I comment.
Hi, Amber! This is Kainee Bram. Would love to talk to you. Please leave a voicemail if I don’t answer right away.

Hello, I am a current child care director in Texas and would love more information on starting a mothers day out program.
Hi, Brandy. We’ll reach out to our friend, Kainee, to connect with you and see how she can help you get that program launched.
Hi Kanee Bram,
I have the same question Ms. Connie from Groves, TX had about wanting to go from 2 days a week to 3 days a week for our MDO. I am the director at First Lutheran Church in Temple TX. Is it possible to do this with out having to be come licensed?
Any information would help.
Hi Danelle,
Thanks for commenting here. This is easily our most engaged episode of Beyond the Rut podcast. I’ll pass your contact information on to Kainee today. She and her husband, Scott, are good friends of mine. Have a great day!

Hi! My name is Domnique and I’m thinking about staring a Mom’s Day Out program at my church. I would like to speak with someone about regulations and start up ideas. Etc.
Hi Domnique,
Kainee put her email address in this comment section if you’d like to reach out to her. Let her know that you saw this post on Beyond the Rut. If you haven’t listened to the episode, I recommend that so you get a little more about her background in running a parents’ day out program. – Jerry
