Making Child Care Business Adjustments During COVID-19 – BtR 217

Kainee Bram opened a successful Mother’s Day Out program to pursue a calling and a dream to impact the next generation positively. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 changed everything. This is her story on how she kept her dream alive during a shutdown, kept and took care of her staff, and even expanded her business to meet new needs in the market.

The Impact of COVID-19

In March 2020, it was announced that businesses across the United States needed to go into a lockdown to reduce the spread of COVID-19 to those most at-risk. We may still find ourselves in debate years later on whether or not the shutdown was needed or if it truly relieved the pressure on healthcare that could have been worse. The reality for Kainee Bram and her employees was that they were simply out of business for the time being.

Kainee didn’t just worry about her own family. She was concerned for the welfare of her staff as well as her clientele. People needed to be safe, and they also needed to be able to earn a living. Children needed a safe space with protocols to keep them healthy while their parents did what they had to do.

Looking Up and Looking Forward

Kainee did not waste time wallowing in self-pity. She looked at all her options with a new perspective, which we discussed in this episode of Beyond the Rut.

As a result of her creativity, faith, and diligence, Kainee was able to reshape her business to be able to handle the challenges of the pandemic, and keep her staff employed, and here’s the crazy thing. She was even able to expand into a daycare.

It is in challenging times that we can either fold or find new opportunities. Kainee’s story is one of resilience, adaptability, and moving forward despite the perceived odds and hardships faced. Today, this episode and her first interview help people around the United States also start a Mother’s Day Out program within their own churches and communities. Now, that’s living beyond the rut!

Kainee Bram

Kainee Bram was the former Children’s Ministry Director for Church Unlimited a number of years before venturing into business for herself with mother’s day out programs, a preschool, and daycare in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her mission is to provide parents the opportunity to engage in other activities while their children are cared for in a safe, loving environment designed for that child’s developmental needs.

She partnered with local churches and a mixed martial arts dojo in the Corpus Christi area to launch her first two locations. Later, as she found success, there was an opportunity to purchase and take over a daycare in Corpus Christi. It included a preschool. This episode shares how she navigated the waters of licensing, hiring, and state regulations to create her dream business.

She currently lives, works, and attends church in Corpus Christi, Texas, with her husband Scott.
